A few months ago I accidentally grabbed the wrong spice off the grocery store shelf. Because spices tend to be a bit on the spendy side I don’t like to throw them away. Even if I don’t foresee using the spice, I don’t want to toss it in the trash. So I have been determined to find a use for the accidental spice.
A large majority of the cooking that happens at our house is based on what we have available at the time. So it has been added to a few things here and there. But this weekend I hit on the perfect use of this spice!
Coriander Garlic Steak Rub! Oh it is good! It made my husband moan and carry on about how fabulous the steak was practically every other bite he took.
I don’t even usually cook steak! In fact it is normally my husband’s job to cook the steak because I end up cooking it wrong. But this weekend, for the first time ever attempted on a grill pan, using this rub I won my man’s heart through food!
Here is how I made the rub!
(Good amount for two decent sized steaks)
½ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Pepper
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon Ground Coriander
How I added it to the meat
- Personally I layered the spices in the order above directly on the meat and then rubbed it into the raw meat and let it set for a good 10-15 minutes before grilling it on a butter laden grill pan.
- Because the rubbing automatically ends up mixing the spices I did not bother to mix them in advance. However, for the purpose of having some on-hand ready to go or perhaps giving some as a gift, having it mixed it advance would probably be quite nice.
We didn’t even have to fight our two-year-old into eating the steak! It really was just a fabulous flavor profile for a nice juice steak dinner!
Hope you give this a try! Come back and tell me what you thought!
