5 Different Ways to Use Cereal

We have a lot of cereal in our house.

A lot!

And yet oddly enough, it is one of my least favorite breakfast options. My son actually views a bowl of cereal like cheerios with bananas on top as a special treat because we just don’t eat it that much.

However, I have found that it can be used for many things beyond the normal bowl of cereal. I thought I would share five of my top cereal usages. Fair warning, a lot of these are desserts simply because I truly love to bake.

‘Bread’ Crumbs

Take a basic plain cereal. Turn it into ‘bread’ crumbs and do things like breaded chicken for dinner or top baked mac and cheese.

Crispy Treats

We have all had the dearly loved treat known as Rice Krispy Treats. Gooey, yummy, sing in your mouth cavity makers! This can be done with any cereal really. In fact growing up I remember having Cheerio Krispy Treats.

Cheesecake Crust

Yep turn the cereal to dust and treat it just like you would graham crackers for the crust recipe.  Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Pebbles or Golden Grahams are perfect.

Within or On Top of

Brownies, cookies, pie, etc….Add something like rice krispys to brownies for some extra texture. There are cornflake chocolate chip cookies. And crumbled up and added to the top of a crisp or crumble is just the right add to something like a peach cobbler.


Coarsely crumbled and mixed it can also become the added garnish to things like a bowl full of ice cream or yogurt. The options are endless!
